It is the most common question I hear when someone books: group or private? The honest answer is whichever one you will actually keep doing. Here is how to tell.
What a group gives you
- Energy and rhythm. A group carries you. Showing up gets easier when others are showing up too.
- Atmosphere. Shared breath, shared savasana, and, on a small island, friendships that start on neighbouring mats.
- Accessibility. Group classes usually cost less than one-to-one work.
My groups stay small, so even in the group format everyone receives corrections and care. Beginners always get accessible versions of each pose.
What private work gives you
- Precision. The entire session is built from your body, your health and your goal, pace, techniques, everything.
- Depth. One-to-one, we can work with breath, attention and long-held patterns of tension, not only with poses.
- Safety. Injuries, back issues, special conditions? Private format lets us honour them completely.
- Your schedule. We choose times together; online sessions are possible from anywhere.
A simple way to decide
Choose a group if you're generally healthy, want regular practice, and enjoy the energy of practising with others.
Choose private sessions if you have a specific goal or health consideration, want to go deeper, or simply feel shy about starting in front of people.
And the two combine beautifully: many students begin with one or two private sessions to build their foundation, then join the group with confidence.
There is no "right" format. There is only the one you will practise with pleasure.
Explore both: group classes · private sessions. Or let the one-minute quiz weigh your experience, goals and location for you.
